BUSINESS PROFILE Although Dereck Nicolson registered QP Training as a Closed Corporation during 2002 and changed the company name to QMS Consulting and Training cc in March 2004, he has been operating as a sole trader in the field of consulting and training since 1986 while working in close cooperation with other consultants. Prior to this, he worked in the Supplier Quality Assurance department at Ford Motor Company for 13 years. Since 1986, Dereck has assisted a large number of companies throughout South Africa to develop or upgrade their Quality Management Systems to comply with ISO 9001/2, QS-9000, VDA-6, ISO/TS 16949 requirements as well as other automotive requirements. He has also trained thousands of people in the field of quality. In July 1998, Dereck was nominated by Delta Motor Corporation (now General Motors South Africa) as their training provider for QS-9000 and the associated ‘core tools'. This training was provided to many Delta Motor Corporation employees and their national supplier base. The ‘core tools' are still taught. During 2000 & 2002, Dereck was contracted by Delta Motor Corporation to provide training on their DMC 1927 APQP Process for Delta personnel and their entire supplier base. In August 2005, Dereck successfully completed the required certification process and has been nominated by General Motors South Africa as a ‘certified service provider' of their Quality System Basics (QSB) Workshop.
